It is probably going to be more expensive, but I will try to look into this more on Thursday.

That is, unless East Coast dealers have it(Mits. product), then everyone will be OK.
Last Thursday when I was making enquiries about this with my closest Mits. spares outlet - Albion Park NSW(and also Nowra NSW), I was told SPIII was on back order and it is made by Castrol.

I called again today and was guaranteed that the shipment will be arriving tomorrow Friday AM.

It will be the "genuine" product in the Mitsubishi bottle - not a Castrol branded product.

Price increase - established by him calling up the part # on the computer - thereby confirming that it is not "NLA" or "nil stock" - to $41.70 for 5 litres trade price.

This is up from $38 I paid mid last year for my last purchase of 5 litres.

Laqst week I also called a Hyundai dealer for their price for SPIII, and did not take it any further once I got a tentative indication of it's outrageous price, as indicated by "Madna 3.5" in post # 18.

Not convinced that the spares parts outlet vendors have the inside knowledge.
Is this a case of "available until existing stock runs out".

Hope that Castrol continues to produce the Mitsu "genuine" product.
Since this forum is full of "don't use anything else" in the AT of your Mitsubishi Magnas/380's.

If the Castrol synthetic ATF is used without issues, would that suggest it is better for the transmission longevity being a fully synthetic oil?
Especially for the cars without ATF coolers where the OEM fluid might degrade much quicker from heat?
Or are there just too many variables to be able to accurately presume anything?

Bought 10 litres (2 by 5 litres) last week for $41 each. The dealer in Ryde had stock and said it is freely available.

    Just to clarify:

The Genuine Mitsubishi SP-III ATF is NOT DISCONTINUED and IS AVAILABLE to be ordered at any Mitsubishi dealership.

There is no plan to make this product obsolete.

Very different story to what Castrol state, they have stated they have replaced it with the Transmax, perhaps Castrol are shipping out the Transmax however not still blending the exact same fluid as we used to have if that makes sense.

I am only going by what the Castrol Rep (well multiple reps) have told me

Either way, the transmax is a fully synth fluid, is SPIII blend and for the last 18 months is what we have been using with great results. Given that Fliuddrive also use this in all the Mits Warranty boxes as well does make me confident is a good fluid

One other thing, for us, buying 60l drums is not economical for us as we go through enough of the 205l drums as it is. When BP were supplying this I could get it in 205 but since about 18 months ago no longer can get the mist fluid in 205
